OJHL AWARD WINNERS HONOURED
The 2013-14 OJHL Award Winners (photo credit - Tim Bates/OJHL Images) will honoured prior to game two of the 2014 OJHL Championship Series at Westwood Arena in Toronto.
Taylor Best of the Whitby Fury was the big winner on the night taking home three awards, including the Top Scorer, Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player.
The two championship clubs, the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots and Aurora Tigers, each had multiple members of their teams honoured in front of their fans. Netminder Kevin Entmaa of the the Tigers took home Top Goaltender and Goaltender-of-the-Year, while bench boss James Richmond received his Coach-of-the-Year honours. Kevin Shier and Michael Prapavessis of the hometown Patriots were honoured with the Humanitarian-of-the-Year and Top Defenceman/Most Gentlemanly Player respectively. Their off-ice leader, Mike Tarantino was presented with his Executive-of-the-Year Award.
For the third consecutive year, the fan's selected their favourite player and this season the winner (with almost 10,000 votes cast) was Stuart Fierheller of the Lindsay Muskies. Longtime Lindsay junior hockey member of the community, Frank McDonald was on-hand to present Fierheller with his award.
Other award winners honoured this evening included the CJHL Top Prospect Jake Walman of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, who took home OJHL Top Prospect and Rookie-of-the-Year, Whitby Fury equipment manager Robb Crawford who was Trainer-of-the-Year, 38-year volunteer Hal Gies of the Milton Icehawks who was named Volunteer-of-the-Year and the OJHL Scholastic Player-of-the-Year Richard Court of the Georgetown Raiders.
