The Georgetown Raiders, currently ranked 19th in the country by the CJHL, continued their successful 2010-11 season, by sending four representatives to the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge. Over the tournament’s four year history, Georgetown has been represented by two players – netminder Nick Avgerinos in 2009 and Evan Zych in 2007 - as well as former coach James Richmond being named assistant coach in 2009.

The Raiders broke that trend this week when four players, including team captain Scott Wilson (photo credit - Izak Westgate/HHOF), were named to the Team Canada East roster for the upcoming tournament being held in Penticton, B.C. from November 8-14.

Scott Wilson was born on April 24, 1992 in Oakville, Ontario. The 6’, 175 lbs Raiders’ forward will join teammates Matt Chiarantano, Tyler McCarthy and Evan Rodrigues in Penticton. Representing his country has always been a dream and Wilson can’t wait for the tournament to start.

“This is by far the biggest thrill of my hockey career to date. I get chills just thinking about putting on the Canadian jersey and playing other nations. I feel extremely privileged and honoured to be afforded this fantastic opportunity. It will be a great experience to play with, and against, some of the best Junior ‘A’ players in the world.”

The third-year left winger entered the OJHL as a 16-year old in 2008-09, playing in only six games with the Raiders, and would join them full-time the following season, recording 24 goals and 67 points in 56 games to finish third on the club in scoring. Wilson continued his ascent as one of the league’s best players, by then recording 17 points in 11 playoff games. His efforts earned him numerous accolades, including Raiders team awards as the club’s Rookie-of-the-Year and Player-of-the-Year.

Wilson entered the 2010-11 season with high expectations and has not disappointed. New head coach Greg Walters immediately named Wilson team captain and the consummate playmaker has slowly worked his way to the top of the scoring charts. He is currently tied for the Raider scoring lead with teammate Justin Basso, both sitting 4th overall in OJHL scoring with 35 points, while also sitting alone atop the entire league with 26 assists. His consistent play has helped the Raiders march to the top of the extremely competitive West Division.

Look for great things from Wilson as he leads Team Canada East throughout the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge!
