LEONARD ACCEPTS NCAA OFFER FROM RPI
The Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League are pleased to
announce defenseman Curtis Leonard (photo courtesy of the Wellington Times) has signed a letter of intent with Division I RPI of the NCAA. RPI, located in Troy, New York is also home to
former Duke Marty O'Grady. Leonard is the 27th Duke player to head to the
NCAA over the past 6 seasons.
The 6' 3", 180 lb native of Napanee, Ontario is eligible for the 2011 NHL
draft as a result of his late birthdate. Leonard played for the Quinte Red
Devils AAA Minor Midgets before joining the 2008 Dukes training camp.
Junior A rules only allowed the signing of two 16 year olds and he was able
to beat out some stiff competition and signed with the Dukes that season. A
serious injury shortened his rookie year but he did play in the 2009 Future
Stars Game.
Last season, he was one of just three Duke players to suit up for all 50
regular season games. He was selected the Dukes Player of the Month for
March, 2010.
This season, he scored his first ever Junior A goal on September 16, 2010 in
a 4 to 3 win over the Kingston Voyageurs. He was selected again for Dukes
Player of the Month for September, 2010. Picked by the CJHL to play for
Team East in the 2010 Prospects Games and scored a goal in the series.
