OJHL TOP SCORER & TOP GOALTENDER ANNOUNCED

The Ontario Junior Hockey League’s 2010-11 regular season officially wrapped up this weekend with its first award winners being announced.

Regular Season Champion – Newmarket Hurricanes

OJHL Top Scorer – Phil Brewer, Burlington Cougars

OJHL Top Goaltender – Charlie Finn, Kingston Voyageurs

The Burlington Cougars, Newmarket Hurricanes, Vaughan Vipers and Wellington Dukes were champions of their respective divisions, while the Hurricanes brought home the regular season crown on the strength of a 40-7-3 record for 83 points, followed closely by the Dukes with 81 points.

The Burlington Cougars were led by Phil Brewer’s 109 points as he captured the OJHL scoring title. The 6’1”, 195 lbs. captain of the Cougars recorded 39 goals and a league-leading 70 assists in 48 games played to win the award. Last season Brewer was named the CCHL’s Western Conference Most Improved Player and will look to lead his club on a lengthy playoff run. Zach Hyman of the Hamilton Red Wings was runner-up to Brewer, recording 102 points in only 42 games played. Joining Brewer and Hyman in the century club were James Woodcroft of the Brampton Capitals with 101 points and Matt Neal of the Stouffville Spirit with 100 points even.

Woodcroft also captures the regular season goal scoring title, hitting the magical 50 goal mark during an impressive six goal, nine point outing versus Milton in their second last game of the season. He finished the season with a 52 goal campaign.

Charlie Finn of the Kingston Voyageurs takes home OJHL Top Goaltender honours, leading all netminders with an impressive 1.92 goals against average. The 5’10”, 150 lbs. native of North Vancouver, B.C. finished the season with a 23-4-3 record, four shutouts and a .933 save percentage in leading the Voyageurs to second place in the East Division. Jimmy Sarjeant of the league-leading Newmarket Hurricanes finished as runner-up, posting a 1.97 goals against average.
