S-E CONFERENCE ALL-PROSPECTS ANNOUNCED

The Ontario Junior Hockey League today announced the South-East Conference First and Second All-Prospect Teams.

South-East 1st Team All-Prospect
G – Charlie Finn (Kingston Voyageurs)
D – Nelson Armstrong (Peterborough Stars)
D – Cody Mintz (Cobourg Cougars)
F – Brian Bunnett (Wellington Dukes)
F – Holden Cook (Whitby Fury)
F – Robert Polesello (Vaughan Vipers)

South-East 2nd Team All-Prospect
G – Donald Edwards (Whitby Fury)
D – Josh Brown (Whitby Fury)
D – Taki Pantziris (North York Rangers)
F – Connor Brown (St. Michael’s Buzzers)
F – Phil Di Giuseppe (Villanova Knights)
F – Joe Sullivan (Peterborough Stars)

Goaltender – Charlie Finn (Kingston Voyageurs)
After earning the OJHL’s Top Goaltender honours by leading the entire league with a 1.92 goals against average, Kingston Voyageurs netminder Charlie Finn also earned 1st Team All-Prospect as the club finished as the East Division runner-up. The native of North Vancouver, B.C. also finished second among all goalies with a .933 save percentage and tied for second with four shutouts on the season.

Defence – Nelson Armstrong (Peterborough Stars)
Playing for his hometown Peterborough Stars, defenceman Nelson Armstrong led all rearguards on the club with 37 points in 2010-11, also the 10th best total in the entire league. His totals include 11 goals, the sixth best total among all OJHL defencemen, and 26 assists. Recently, Armstrong accepted an NCAA scholarship and will be attending St. Lawrence University in the fall.

Defence – Cody Mintz (Cobourg Cougars)
Cobourg Cougars defenceman Cody Mintz was a pillar on the club’s blueline during his rookie season, finishing second on the team among all rearguards with 27 points, including eight goals, top 20 overall in the league. The 16-year old native of Bowmanville, Ontario also recorded 10 power play goals, tied for second on the Cougars and tied for 12th among all defencemen in the OJHL.

Forward – Brian Bunnett (Wellington Dukes)
Forward Brian Bunnett of the Wellington Dukes met and surpassed all expectations during his first season of junior. After being named the club’s November Player-of-the-Month, Bunnett would excel at the CJHL Prospects Game, ultimately being ranked 161st overall by NHL Central Scouting for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. The native of Bowmanville, Ontario finished the year with 16 goals and 33 points, including six game-winning goals, tied for ninth best in the entire OJHL.

Forward – Holden Cook (Whitby Fury)
Playing for his hometown Whitby Fury, rookie forward Holden Cook was one of the club’s most consistent forwards throughout the 2010-11 OJHL season. Cook would record 22 goals to lead the club in goal scoring, along with 17 assists, for 39 points to finish second on the club in overall scoring. Perhaps more impressive for the 16-year old are the eight power play and four game-winning goals he scored to also lead the Fury.

Forward – Robert Polesello (Vaughan Vipers)
Robert Polesello’s award-filled season continues, having already earned a silver medal as a member of Team Canada East at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge and a gold medal as the only OJHL member of Team Ontario at the World Under-17 Challenge. The native of Bolton, Ontario would only get to play in 37 games due to playing in both tournaments, but would still manage to record 17 goals and 47 points, averaging 1.27 points/game to finish fifth on the Vipers in overall scoring.


2nd Team All-Prospects
Whitby Fury goaltender Donald Edwards is a native of London, Ontario. He finished 13th among all OJHL netminders with a 2.88 goals against average.

Whitby Fury defenceman Josh Brown is a native of London, Ontario. He finished tied for third overall on the Fury with four power play goals.

North York Rangers defenceman Taki Pantziris is a native of Toronto, Ontario. He finished tied for fourth overall among all OJHL defencemen with 13 goals.

St. Michael’s Buzzers forward Connor Brown is a native of Etobicoke, Ontario. He finished second on the Buzzers in game-winning goals with four game-winners.

Villanova Knights forward Phil Di Giuseppe is a native of Maple, Ontario. He finished tied for eighth overall among all OJHL scorers with eight power play assists.

Peterborough Stars forward Joe Sullivan is a native of Hamilton, Ontario. He finished eighth on the Stars in goal scoring, recording 10 goals.
