SIX MORE COUGARS COMMIT
Six more members of the Burlington Cougars have recently made commitments for the 2011-12 season, boosting the club's total number of commitments to ten on the season. The West Division regular season champions have a proud history of developing excellence in hockey and education. Over the past five years, 28 Cougars have received NCAA scholarships, including eight players from this year's squad, as well as a few moving on to the Canadian University ranks.
Forward Chris Carr has confirmed his commitment to play for the Oswego State University Lakers. The 20-year old native of Burlington recently completed his fourth season as a member of the Cougars, after splitting the 2007-08 season with the Milton Icehawks. Also one of the club's alternate captains, Carr finished four in regular season scoring with 72 points and then led the club with 14 assists and 18 points during the playoffs.
Defenceman Robert Gertsakis also confirmed his commitment to join the Lakers next season. The native of Pickering, Ontario was one of the Cougars alternate captains this season and finished second to OJHL All-Star Luke Juha in scoring from the blueline with 27 points during the regular season, while adding four points during the playoffs.
Forward Jeff Gottzmann has confirmed his commitment to join the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees of Ontario University Athletics. The second-year native of Burlington, improved his totals this past season with 12 goals and 45 points for the Cougars, while adding seven points in 10 playoff games.
Forward Jason Popek confirmed he is the third member of the Cougars that will be making their way to Oswego State next season. The third-year native of Hamiltion recently completed his second season with the Cougars after playing one game for the Oakville Blades in 2008-09. Another of the Cougars alternate captains, Popek finished fifth in scoring on the club's high-powered offence with 65 points, while finishing third in the playoffs with 14 points.
Netminder Adrian Volpe confirmed his commitment to join the Brock University Badgers next year. Volpe made the jump from Junior 'B' this past season, leading the Cougars to the West Division title with a 25-5-2 record during the regular season. The native of Burlington then posted a 6-3 record during the playoffs to finish out his junior career.
Forward Tyler Wiseman (pictured - photo credit: Izak Westgate/HHOF) confirmed his commitment to join the Canisius College Golden Griffins beginning with the 2011-12 Atlantic Hockey season. The 18-year old native of Burlington recently completed his second season with the Cougars, finishing fourth on the club with 24 goals during the regular season and fourth on the club with playoff scoring with 13 points.
