The OJHL announced today that Markham Waxers’ forward Daniel Pachis (photo credit - Brian Watts/OJHL) has been named the Gongshow Gear North-West Conference Player-of-the-Month after recording 22 points in 10 games played throughout the month of October.

Missing almost of all of September with an injury, Pachis made an immediate impact upon his return, quickly rocketing up the scoring the charts. After recording six points in his first three games, the 6’0”, 200 lbs. forward notched 12 goals and 10 assists throughout the month of October to lead the Waxers to a 7-3-0 record, while moving into the top 20 in league scoring. A key member of the Markham power play, with five power play goals and three power play assists during the month, Pachis’ month included a four point outing during a 7-6 win over Huntsville and a five point performance during a 9-1 victory over Hamilton. Three times during October he was named the game’s first star, as well as being named second star once.

Pachis was quick to praise his teammates when he was informed of the honour, “It's a great honour to win this award. Individual honours are nice, but our team has really come together this past month and that has been fun to be a part of.” He continued, by discussing his club’s play, “We are seven and three in our last ten and hoping to carry that momentum into November. We have a great staff here and real good bunch of guys. We are all having fun coming to the rink.”

Waxers’ General Manager Chris Vanstone was thrilled to have his star forward back in the line-up, “We are extremely happy for Daniel. He has been a huge piece of our team since returning from a hip injury that forced him to miss the first seven games of the year. His leadership on the ice and in the dressing was surely missed in our first seven games. Daniel's play is one of the major reasons for our 7-3 record in the month of October.

Taylor McCloy of the Aurora Tigers was runner-up to Pachis as the South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month. The 18-year old rookie, after playing six games in Orangeville last season, recorded 12 goals and 4 assists for 16 points, including a four point effort in an 8-6 victory over division rival Markham.

Born on June 6, 1991, Daniel Pachis played his minor hockey in his hometown of Whitby, Ontario as a member of the Wildcats organization in the OMHA. He would dominate play during his final season in midget, recording 50 goals and 31 assists for 81 points. That summer, Pachis was selected in the first round of the OHL Priority Selection, 16th overall by the Saginaw Spirit.

After signing with the Spirit, Pachis made the jump to junior hockey, recording only six points during his first season in the Ontario Hockey League. He would spend three years in the OHL, two with Saginaw and his final year, 2009-10, with the Oshawa Generals.

Following his three-year OHL career, Pachis returned to his roots in 2010-11, joining the Whitby Fury organization. Starting the season by recording 10 goals and 6 assists in 20 games played, the left-shooting forward was then dealt to the nearby Pickering Panthers, where he would finish the season as the club’s leading scorer with a combined total of 47 points in 38 games played. Following the season, he signed with the Waxers, and after the initial disappointment of the hip injury that caused him to miss the first month of the season, Pachis has returned to dominate the scoring charts, more than living up to expectations for the club.
