CANADA EAST MEMBERS HONOURED
Monday night, prior to the Cobourg Cougars game versus the St. Michael's Buzzers, nine members of Team Canada East, that recently won the silver medal at the 2011 World Junior 'A' Challenge in Langley, BC, were honoured in a special pre-game ceremony.
On-hand for the presentation (photo credit - Kelly Martin/Cobourg Cougars) was OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy, as well as the Governors of both clubs, Mike McCarron (St. Michael's) and Marc Mercier (Cobourg). Canada East members were presented with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the OJHL. Team members present included (from right to left), Justin Danforth (Cobourg), Daniel Milne (St. Michael's), Michael Neville (St. Michael's), Adrian Ignagni (St. Michael's), Tournament MVP Devin Shore (Whitby), Aidan Wright (Kingston), Therapist Amanda Gilroy (Pickering), Head Coach Curtis Hodgins (Whitby). Unable to attend the ceremony was Equipment Manager Robb Crawford (Whitby).
Following the ceremony, the Cougars and Buzzers went to battle in an exciting back-and-forth affair. After falling behind 5-2 early in the 3rd period, the Cougars mounted a thee goal comeback with Canada East's Justin Danforth scorign the tying goal with 1:23 remaining in the game. The Cougars then completed the comeback in the shootout, earning a hard-fought 6-5 victory.
Be sure to come out to Ray Twinney Complex in Newmarket on Thursday night (Nov. 24) for the second World Junior 'A' tribute to the remaining Team Canada East members. The ceremony will begin at 7:30pm prior to puck-drop.
