The OJHL announced today that Cobourg Cougars forward Dylan Goddard (photo credit - Brian Watts/OJHL) has been named the Gongshow Gear South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month after recording 17 points in 9 games played throughout the month of November.

On the strength of seven goals and ten assists during the month, Goddard continues to lead the Cougars in scoring, while also being among the league’s leaders. The 5’9”, 170 lbs. Goddard recorded multiple points in six of nine games, including a pair of hat tricks and a five point outing. The first three goal effort came during a 4-3 victory over division-rival Whitby, in which his hat trick goal was also the overtime game-winner, while the second hat trick, also the same game in which Goddard notched five points, came during a 10-8 victory over another division-rival, Lindsay. Currently sitting fourth overall in OJHL scoring with 46 points in 29 games played, Goddard has accomplished all of this while failing to record a single penalty minute yet this season.

Goddard was excited and recognized the role of his teammates when informed of the honour, “It feels good to be recognized by the league and it’s a great feeling to be having such a productive season so far. We have a lot of talent and depth on the team this year and my teammates have been a huge part of my success.”

Justin Teakle, Head Coach of the Cougars, paid tribute to his star forward, “Dylan is a very talented and skilled player and in the proper setting can achieve greatness. With his explosive speed, great hands and vision, Dylan comes through offensively for us in the big games. He produced 17 points in the month of November and shows no signs of slowing down.”

Daniel Tedesco of the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots was runner-up to Goddard as the South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month. The second-year native of Maple, Ontario more than doubled his point production during the month of November, recording 14 points in 10 games played for the Patriots.

A native of Courtice, Ontario, Dylan Goddard was born on April 3, 1992 and grew up playing the majority of his minor hockey career, from atom to midget, in the Whitby Wildcats ‘AAA’ program. Goddard would record 18 goals and 31 points during the 2007-08 season while helping the Wildcats to the OMHA Championship Tournament and would be selected in the 7th round, 139th overall, by the Belleville Bulls that summer in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection.

Goddard made the jump to junior hockey in 2008-09 as a member of the Trenton Hercs organization, posting 21 points in 37 games played before the club suspended operations midway through the season. He finished the year as a member of the Whitby Fury, while also playing 12 games for the Belleville Bulls, recording two OHL assists. Splitting the year between the Bulls and Fury in 2009-10, Goddard would only play one game for the Bulls, while also recording 21 points in 31 games for the Fury. Last year, Goddard would be traded from Whitby to the Cobourg Cougars where he finished the year with 38 points in 44 games played.

Also an avid lacrosse player, Goddard returned to junior lacrosse during the summer of 2010, joining the Junior ‘B’ Clarington Green Gaels, where he has been one of not only the club’s, but the entire league’s top scorers in two seasons played. Entering his fourth OJHL season, Goddard was expected to carry a heavy load for the Cougars and thus far this season has more than lived up to expectations, while helping Cobourg become one of the league’s elite clubs.
