G'HAWKS CLINCH OJHL TITLE
The Trenton Golden Hawks' Hunter Fargey scored 2:22 into overtime to beat the Kingston Voyageurs, 2-1 (OT), clinching the OJHL Regular Season title for the club.
This marks the second time in franchise history (2013) that the Golden Hawks have claimed first place overall, also clinching the East Division and North-East Conference titles in the process. Trenton captures the divisional crown for the second consecutive year and fourth time in the past five seasons.
Trenton's Daniel Urbani was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Urbani will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.69.
The Golden Hawks were sparked by Fargey, who registered one goal.
Trenton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Kingston power plays. The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 33 shots on Kingston's net.
Jordan Chard also scored for Trenton. More assists for Trenton came via Danny Hanlon, Nick Boddy, Josh Allan, and Ryan Smith, who contributed one each.
The Voyageurs managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Kingston ended up below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Voyageurs were held below their usual level of production. Kingston puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game.
The Voyageurs were led by Connor Cobbold, who scored the team's only goal. Cobbold scored 6:48 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. Danny Bosio assisted on the tally.
Trenton incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. David Richer rejected 31 shots on goal for Kingston.
