Toronto Lakeshore Patriots defenceman Rob Simpson (photo credit - Scott Grondin/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Elmira College Soaring Eagles beginning with the 2012-13 ECAC-West season.

The 5'10", 180 lbs. native of Etobicoke, Ontario, played a single game as an affiliated player with the Mississauga Chargers in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons before joining the club full-time in 2009-10.  He would spend two and a half seasons as a Charger, leading their defensive corp in scoring last year with 26 points, before joining the Patriots as a January 10 trade deadline acquisition.  He was an immediate impact on the club's blueline, helping stabalize a group of Patriot youngsters on defence.

"It`s an old cliche, but Robbie`s experience, poise, intensity, and leadership were beneficial for some of our young players on the back end," commented Head Coach Mike Tarantino.

Rob took the time to thank those who helped him achieve his goal, "I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots and Mississsauga Chargers organizations for every opportunity they've given me over the last 3 years.  Also, I would like to express my appreciation to the OJHL for providing an atmosphere where I could develop and achieve my goal of playing NCAA hockey.  I would also like to thank all the coaches I've had throughout my hockey career.  I would not be where I am today without their guidance and direction.  Finally, thanks to the great teammates I've had for making the last three years such an unforgettable experience."

Congratulations Rob and all the best during your future four years at Elmira.
