Brendan Kennette of the Burlington Cougars (photo credit – Ryan McCullough / OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division 1 Sacred Heart Pioneers in Fairfield, CT beginning with the 2021-22 season.

The native of the Windsor-area community of Belle River joined the Cougars this season.

It’s been quite a rookie season.

Brendan has 21 points (5 goals/16 assists) and 60 penalty minutes in 40 OJHL games this year.

One of three Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s initial 'Players to Watch List' for the 2019-20 season, he remained on the mid-season ratings released last month.

He was a member of Team Canada East that won silver at the World Jr. A Challenge in Dawson Creek, BC in December.

The 17-year-old defenceman had 21 points in 40 games with the Jr. B Sarnia Legionnaires and was named to the GOJHL (Western) Rookie All-Star Team last season.

Brendan is a graduate of the Sun County Panthers AAA program.

Congratulations to Brendan and best of luck in the OJHL and NCAA!

The OJHL, the largest Jr. A hockey league in Canada, had more than 125 NCAA, U Sports, CHL and professional commitments in 2018-19 – including 65 NCAA Division I scholarships.
