MISTRY CONFIRMS COMMITMENT TO NCAA D1 BROWN
Ethan Mistry of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division 1 Brown University Bears in Providence, RI beginning with the 2022-23 season.
The Toronto native committed to the Ivy League school in February while attending the Milton Academy in Milton, MA.
“I committed to Brown because of its elite academic and hockey programs,” Mistry told the OJHL this week. “When I visited the campus and met the hockey coaches it felt like the right fit.”
He’s looking forward to playing in the OJHL.
“The Canadiens and the OJ are the best place for me to develop to become a college hockey player,” Mistry said. “I chose the OJ because it is a very high-level league, as seen by the number of college commitments. The JRC organization is excellent at developing players and has always been a consistently competitive program.”
His new team is equally excited.
"The Toronto Jr. A Canadiens are proud to have Ethan and his family make the decision to join our hockey club to begin his Junior A career and continue his development into a Division 1 athlete,” said Jr. Canadiens general manager Blake Ricci.
Now 17, Mistry scored eight goals and added 20 assists in 27 games at Milton last season.
The previous year, he had 55 points (nine goals/46 assists) in 73 games as captain of the OHL Cup champion Don Mills Flyers U16 team while affiliating with the Toronto Patriots of the OJHL.
He received the GTHL’s Gord Hughes Minor Midget AAA Scholarship in 2019. The award recognizes a U16 player who achieves a high standard of excellence academically and in hockey.
He was a 10th-round pick of the Niagara IceDogs in the 2019 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
Former OJHLers Christopher Berger (Buffalo Jr. Sabres, Brad Cocca (St. Michael’s Buzzers) and Jake Harris (North York Rangers, Toronto Patriots) are on Brown’s 2020-21 roster.
Congratulations to Ethan and best of luck in the OJHL and the NCAA
The OJHL, the largest Jr. A hockey league in Canada, has had more than 120 NCAA, U Sports, CHL and professional commitments in 2019-20 – including more than 45 NCAA Division I scholarships.
