After falling behind 3-1 by the midway point of the game, the Oakville Blades mounted a spirited comeback that ultimately saw them even their best-of-seven series at two games apiece.  Patrick Chore for Oakville and OJHL playoff scoring leader Corey Kalk for North York would trade first period goals, before the Rangers poured on the offence in the second, firing 18 shots at Evan Buitenhuis.  Kalk notched his second of the game and Adam Valadao made it 3-1 for the visitors.  Harrison Domagala answered by for the Blades before the period was out and early in the third, Rory Bell tallied to send the game to overtime.  For the second time in the series, the Blades ended extra time early, this time with Nathan Renouf potting the game winner just under two minutes in.  Game five in this exciting first round series takes place tonight (March 6) with puck drop at 7:30pm at the Herb Carnegie Arena.

In what many expected to be a hard-fought, even series, the home team continued their winning trend as the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots evened the quarter-final series at two with a 6-5 overtime victory.  Despite outshooting the Raiders 14-5 in the first period, the Pats would find themselves trailing 2-1 as Alex Botten and Jacob Bauchman scored for Georgetown with Kevin Shier answering back with one second remaining in the period.  After Daniel Tedesco tied the game midway through the second, Nick Perruccio and Tyler McCarthy scored to give the Raiders a commanding 4-2 lead entering the third.  Cue the Patriots comeback, as Nathan Feric notched two third period markers with Doug Bonar adding a single and Anthony Marra scoring for the Raiders to send the game to overtime for the first time in the series.  Just over two minutes in to the extra frame, Nick Perruccio would be called for goalie interference and the Patriots capitalized on the man advantage as defenceman Tyler Currie blasted home his second of the playoffs for the win.  The two teams head back to Georgetown for game five tonight at 8:00pm.

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens staved off elimination with a 6-5 overtime win over the St. Michael’s Buzzers in game five Tuesday night at St. Michael’s. Anthony Repaci scored twice including the OT winner and added an assist. Matt Buckles and CJ Shugart scored twice each for the Buzzers, who still lead the series three games to two.  The Buzzers opened the scoring at 6:17 on the power play, their first of four straight successful PP conversions. Shugart from Evans and Galati made it 1-0 Buzzers. Just 28 seconds later, however, David Liscio’s wrist shot tied it at one.  The Buzzers would then receive consecutive power play opportunities – and score on both. Shugart took an Evans pass and beat Colitto to give the Buzzers back the lead, and 2:17 later, on another power play, Buckles slapped one in to extend the lead to 3-1 after 20 minutes. Shots on goal were 12-9 St. Michael’s.  The Buzzers were 3-for-3 on the power play in the first, while the Canadiens were 0-for-2.  Over a span of four and a half minutes late in the second period, the game went from a 3-1 Buzzers lead to a 4-4 tie. Joseph Santino cut the Buzzers’ lead to 3-2, Evans extended the lead back to 4-2, and then two straight Toronto goals tied the game. Daniel Lombardi and Repaci scored the third and fourth goals respectively.  By this point in the game, both starting goalies had been replaced. Denny Dubblestyne for the Canadiens and George Argiropoulos for the Buzzers took over.  St. Michael’s would grab a lead late in the period on a power play. Buckles’ second of the night made it 5-4 Buzzers heading to the third period.  With just 3:15 to go, with the Buzzers shorthanded, Adam Logozzo evened the score at 5, beating Argiropoulos on a scramble in front. The teams played it safe after that, and the game went to overtime in a 5-5 tie. At 4:54 of overtime, Repaci sealed it with his 2nd of the night, giving the Canadiens the win and extending the series.  Game six is Wednesday night at Chesswood with puck drop at 7:30pm.
